Spring in the Valley

This is for the Smith Family at the coast! Here, I have finally posted something new. Dalton turned 13 today, it doesn't seem possible. It's almost Spring, and that only means one thing, BASEBALL! I will have pictures soon. Kevin is coaching with the high school, Morgan's team and later in April, Dalton's team. Dalton will be umpire for some of our league games, and was asked tonight if he would like to umpire at the Central Cal State 8-year old tournament. He is going to work on getting his certification through Cal Ripkin. Last week he umpired a softball game at the elementary school and got paid $56 for less than 2 hours of work! He has decided that this is a great part-time job. I still can't believe that he is now officially a teenager!

Award Winning Cakes

Here they are, the two first place cakes that the kids made for their school carnival. The first place cakes are all put in the silent auction. Guess who bought these cakes. Yep, Dad bought them back!

Land of the Free, Home of the Brave!

Although my story is not as dramatic as Tara's ordeal, it was somewhat frustrating. We arrived to vote and while looking at the back of the sample ballot to ascertain which table was our sign-in area, we were of course approached by a poll worker. This was not a problem, he was just being helpful, but he had a slight odor that was enhanced by the stifling heat in the building. The woman at the sign-in table had coke bottle glasses and had to get about 3" from the page to read our names. While we were going through the formalities, the previous man asked if we were computer savvy and would one of us like to try the new electronic machine. Of course we said yes, I had read about this trial run of the machines in our local paper and was eager to see how it all worked. He went to get it ready as we were receiving our ballots. As we watched and waited, 3 or 4 other poll workers joined him at the machine and all appeared to be somewhat at a loss of how to operate the machine. The co

I' ll Drink to That!

Kevin and I went on a wine tasting tour with the local Lion's club this past Saturday (he's now a member). They chartered a bus and we went to 5 different wineries in Paso Robles. I have never really cared much for wine, but we learned that there are some that we both really liked. I discovered the sweeter type dessert wines are my favorites and that the more you let a wine sit and "breathe" the better the flavor gets. We had a great time with a lot of great people! You can definitely sign us up for the next trip. I am adding some of my favorites to my Christmas wish list.
